Family business improves recycling with mobile screen

Re.i.cal, a family owned company, operates a stationary quarry for producing aggregates needed for concrete. A few years ago the company expanded its operations to recycling.
Metso’s mobile screen Lokotrack ST3.5, which was featured at ConExpo-ConAgg in Las Vegas, in March, has proven its efficiency in a demanding screening project involving rock-based recycle materials in Italy. In Pollenza, south of Rimini, the ST3.5 classifies difficult, rock-based recycle materials with a capacity of about 1000 tonnes per working day. Thanks to the optional vibrating grid, the screened end products remain very clean.

“We plan to use our Lokotrack ST3.5 both in recycling and quarrying. Thanks to its compact size, the unit can be easily transported on a normal trailer, which is a big plus for us,” says Andrea Renzi, the managing director of Re.i.cal.

“Our first impression of the ST3.5 is very positive, thanks to the quality components, sturdy design and ease of use. In recycling, having a small shredder before the mobile screen is like a Fiat competing with a Ferrari, so we cannot assess the full capacity of the ST3.5 yet,” son Luigi Renzi adds.

The Lokotrack ST3.5 offers a cost-effective solution to a wide range of screening applications, designed with compact transport dimensions and high quality components to the latest global health and safety legislation. It is equipped with a 3580mm x 1500mm (12’ x 5’) screen box which gives an effective one-deck screening area of 5.3m2 (57ft2). A new Cat 4.4 75kW (100hp) diesel engine, together with an efficient hydraulic system, enables trouble free operation even in demanding applications and extreme climate conditions.

VIBRATING GRID SECURES CLEAN END PRODUCTS
The standard ST3.5 Lokotrack is capable of producing two-sized fractions that, depending on the application, can have an optional two-deck vibrating grid installed to yield three-sized fractions. In quarrying, the vibrating grid can result in quicker feeding and reduces the need to tilt the grid for cleaning. In recycling, the main benefit is in securing the cleanness of the end products.

“The vibrating grid effectively separates wood, plastic and other scrap from the feed, giving us much cleaner screened end products. By choosing different grid mesh sizes, we can also easily adjust and control the feed size to the screen,” notes Massimo Renzi, another family company member, responsible for recycling.

The ST3.5 also has four identical meshes, lowering stock requirements to meet different and diverse applications. The upper screen deck houses a 30mm mesh size, and the lower deck a 5mm mesh size. Oversized materials separated by the grid are returned to the crushing stage. Fed by the small Italian shredder, the output in recycling is about 130 tonnes per hour.

The Lokotrack ST3.5 used by Re.i.cal also features separate remote radio controls for the mobile screen and the vibrating grid, allowing total steering and adjustment of the screening process from the excavator, or front-end loader cabins. The machine’s dimensions and low transport weight add value through lower transport costs.
